The symposium model is a quarter-century-old innovation faculty collaborative problem-solving model created by The University of Georgia to initiate faculty-led campus change. This model allows faculty from across campus to come together to engage in collective problem solving around an issue of shared concern with a shared purpose: improving the lives of faculty members in their department.

About 91ÌÒÉ« Symposium 2019
The 91ÌÒÉ« Summer Symposium built on a model first introduced in 2019, when the Vice Provost of Faculty Affairs and the Faculty Senate hosted 91ÌÒɫ’s first symposium of its kind. In 2019, thirty-four faculty from across disciplines and ranks came together for two days to engage in collective problem-solving around creating collaborative department cultures and effective leadership. The symposium provided a new opportunity for faculty to explore big ideas, shared challenges, and strategies to improve faculty life, professional success, and institutional engagement through fair, transparent, and collaborative departmental practices.
About 91ÌÒÉ« Symposium 2024
The 2024 91ÌÒÉ« Summer Symposium continued this tradition with a day-and-a-half program held on campus on August 8–9, 2024, and was open to all full- and part-time appointed faculty. The symposium offered learning sessions on faculty affairs programming and faculty experience data, working groups focused on mentoring, leadership development, midcareer support, and related areas, opportunities for feedback across working group topics, professional development to strengthen faculty leadership skills, and dedicated time for connection and collaboration among colleagues.
